Mission: The 470th MI Brigade provides timely and fused multi-discipline intelligence in support of U.S. Army South, U.S. Southern Command and other national intelligence agencies -extends trust, builds partnerships and fulfills military-to-military relationships within the area of responsibility. On order, deploy the group or select personnel and equipment tailored to support a wide spectrum of operations worldwide.
The 470th MI Brigade is a multi-component unit subordinate to the U.S. Army Intelligence and Security Command and is comprised of Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment; the 204th MI Battalion (aerial exploitation), 314th MI Battalion, 377th MI Battalion (communications and electronic battalion), the 201st MI Battalion (interrogation) and the Operations Battalion.
Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, Fort Sam Houston, Texas, is composed of all the brigade staff elements. This year, the 201st MI Battalion, the Army’s component of the Joint Intelligence Debriefing Center, deployed to Iraq in support of the U.S. Central Command area of operations.
The 204th MI Battalion, Fort Bliss, Texas, conducts airborne intelligence electronics warfare operations in support of the U.S. Southern Command. The 314th MI BN, Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, provides accurate and timely signals intelligence support to deployed U.S. forces. The 377th MI BN, Orlando, Fla., is the reserve component battalion dedicated to augmenting the 470th MI Brigade with human intelligence support throughout the area of responsibility. The Operations Battalion, Fort Sam Houston, Texas, provides tailored counterintelligence and analytical support to world-wide contingency operations.
While the main focus of the 470th MI Brigade’s mission is to provide multi-disciplined intelligence support to U.S. Army South and U.S. Southern Command, the brigade also supports intelligence operations in both U.S. Central Command and U.S. Pacific Command. The Force Protection Detachments provide CI support to force protection for transient U.S. personnel traveling throughout the SOUTHCOM area of responsibility.
Through comprehensive threat vulnerability assessments and efficient use of limited resources, the 470th MI Brigade continues to provide superior intelligence support to SOUTHCOM and USARSO focused on Central and South America and the Caribbean.
