Mission Statement: 470th MI Brigade - Theater sets the theater for intelligence for Army South (ARSOUTH) and U.S. Southern Command's (USSOUTHCOM) Area of Responsibility by providing multi-disciplinary intelligence ISO multinational operations and security cooperation IOT obstruct and deter Trans-regional Threat Networks while strengthening regional security through an enterprise methodology. Provides trained and tailored teams as well as other enterprise capabilities to support global contingency operations. Functions as the Foundry proponent in San Antonio that manages and facilitates Army collective training at the INSCOM Intelligence Training Center (I2TC).


The 470th Military Intelligence Brigade (Theater) is assigned to the U.S. Army Intelligence and Security Command and under the operational control of U.S. Army South. It is comprised of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 312th MI Battalion (Operations), 717th MI Battalion (Signals Intelligence), 377th MI Battalion (Theater Support).

The 470th Headquarters and Headquarters Company, Fort Sam Houston, Texas, is composed of the brigade headquarters staff and headquarters support personnel.

The 717th Military Intelligence Battalion, Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, provides accurate and timely signals intelligence support to deployed U.S. forces.

The 312th Military Intelligence Battalion, Fort Sam Houston, Texas, conducts all-source and CI/HUMINT intelligence operations in support of U.S. Army South and SOUTHCOM requirements.

The 377th Military Intelligence Battalion, Austin, Texas, is a reserve component theater support battalion that conducts multi-disciplined operational and tactical collection, analysis and dissemination in support of U.S. Army South and SOUTHCOM requirements.

While the main focus of the 470th Military Intelligence Brigade's mission is to provide multi-disciplined intelligence support to U.S. Army South and U.S. Southern Command, the brigade also supports intelligence operations in the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility. Additionally, Force Protection Detachments within the brigade provide counter-intelligence support and force protection for counter-intelligence missions throughout the U.S. Southern Command area of responsibility.
