Command Sergeant Major (CSM) Dayron I. Vargas

Commanging General

Command Sergeant Major (CSM) Dayron I. Vargas assumed responsibility as the U.S. Army Intelligence and Security Command’s (INSCOM) Command Sergeant Major, May 1, 2015.

CSM Vargas is a native of Ponce, Puerto Rico. He enlisted in the United States Army on Oct. 1, 1986, and attended Basic Training at Fort Dix, New Jersey and Advanced Individual Training as a Unit Supply Specialist (92Y) at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. Later he attended the Counterintelligence Agent (35L) Course at Fort Huachuca, Arizona. CSM Vargas has completed all levels of the Noncommissioned Officer Education System. He is a graduate of Class 56, U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy. He holds an Associate Degree in Military Intelligence Operations from Cochise College and a Bachelor of Science from Excelsior College.

CSM Vargas’ assignments include: Unit Supply Specialist, 124th MI Bn, 24th ID (Fort Stewart, Georgia); Supply Sergeant, J2, USFK (Yongsan, Korea); Assistant Property Book Officer, Headquarters Command, USAFAC (Fort Sill, Oklahoma); Overt Collection Section Chief, 524th MI Bn, 501st MI Bde (Taegu, Korea); Platoon Sergeant, 107th MI Bn, 7th ID (Fort Ord, California); Platoon Sergeant, 110th MI Bn, 10th Mountain Division (Fort Drum, New York); Technical Surveillance Countermeasures Team Chief, 310th MI Bn, 902nd MI Group (Fort Meade, Maryland); Technical Security NCOIC, 650th MI Group (SHAPE, Belgium); Technical Security Advisor to the Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff (Pentagon); First Sergeant, C/305th MI Bn, 111th MI Bde (Fort Huachuca, Arizona); Senior Enlisted Leader, Defense Threat Reduction Agency-Europe (Darmstadt, Germany); Command Sergeant Major, 715th MI Bn, 500th MI Bde (Schofield Barracks, Hawaii); Command Sergeant Major, 201st Battlefield Surveillance Brigade, 7th ID (Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington); and most recently Command Sergeant Major, 500th MI Bde (Schofield Barracks, Hawaii). He has deployed numerous times in support of overseas contingency operations, most recently to Iraq in support Operation New Dawn in 2011.

CSM Vargas’ awards include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Defense Meritorious Service Medal (1OLC), Meritorious Service Medal (2OLC), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal (5OLC), Joint Service Achievement Medal (1OLC), and the Army Achievement Medal (3OLC).
